This week Lionsgate announced the addition of Amanda Plummer (Pulp FictionThe Fisher KingSo, I Married An Axe Murderer) to the cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Plummer will be playing the role of Wiress, an older tribute from District 3 who becomes a great asset to Katniss during the 75th Annual Hunger Games.

Plummer is definitely known for bringing the crazy to the screen. Her portrayal of Yolanda/Honey Bunny in Pulp Fiction brought us one of the most quoted phrases from the film, next to “Royal with Cheese.” And even though So, I Married an Axe Murderer wasn’t a box office smash, Plummer gave a chilling performance as the obsessed sister-in-law to Mike Meyers. Sounds like some great casting for this particular role.

According to the books, Wiress is brought to the 75th Annual Hunger Games with male tribute from District 3, Beetee. I’m sure we will be hearing casting news soon on who will be playing that role. The two are big parts of the overall story in Catching Fire along with Johanna Mason, who was recently cast with Jena Malone (Sucker PunchDonnie DarkoStep Mom).

We have a long journey to the theater on this one. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits theaters in IMAX on November 22, 2013. There are several new characters in this film, so expect to see more additions over the coming months as they prep for shooting in September 2012. Catching Fire has a great director at the helm with Francis Lawrence (Water for ElephantsI Am Legend, and let’s not forget Britney Spears “I’m a Slave 4 U” video).

Are you excited for Catching Fire? Who do you think will be cast in the role of Beetee?
