If being an extra in a Batman movie is on your bucket list, you could be in luck.

“The Dark Knight Rises” will have open casting calls four days this month for the conclusion to the trilogy shooting here in July and August and starring Christian Bale and enough notable performers for a fleet of Batmobiles.

Although the casting announcement coyly says it’s for “Magnus Rex,” the description is obviously Batman: “A Warner Bros. film requires extras to play as victims and perpetrators within a city besieged by crime and corruption. Take part in the urban action adventure ripping through the streets of Pittsburgh from July 28 through Aug. 21.”

The casting dates and times: June 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m.; June 12, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 6 p.m.; June 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m.; and June 19, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 6 p.m.

Hopefuls should go to the Omni William Penn Hotel, 530 William Penn Place, Downtown. Use the Oliver Street entrance and head downstairs to the William Penn Ballroom.

Potential extras must be 18 or older and have a valid Social Security number and be legally permitted to work in the United States. Bring a photo ID such as a driver’s license or state or student ID.

There is no guarantee that everyone who shows up will be hired, but roughly 2,000 people are needed to portray prisoners, thugs, guards, police officers and businessmen and women along with a category Pittsburghers know by heart: sports fans. No experience is necessary and all ethnicities are welcome.

They will pay you and, as always with credible organizations, there is no registration fee. Extras, who will need to be available for select day or night shifts as long as 12 hours Wednesdays through Sundays, will receive $58 for eight hours with overtime after that.

Be prepared to have your photo taken (avoid wearing clothing with logos or in bright colors) at the open call, to volunteer your height, weight, clothing sizes and measurements and to have a pen handy.

Organizers suggest you try to come dressed somewhat like one of the categories cited above. No one will be hired on the spot; extras who are hired will be contacted in late June or the beginning of July at the earliest.

Tammy Smith of Smith & Webster-Davis Casting Inc., based in Los Angeles, in association with Pittsburgh’s Nancy Mosser Casting, is handling the task. For more details, go to www.swdcasting.com.
