In case you missed it, The Thrilling Adventure Hour and its core cast, the WorkJuice Players, rocked Seattle over Emerald City Comicon weekend with two live shows, a sneak preview screening of the long-awaited Thrilling Adventure Hour concert film, multiple panels, signings, appearances and even free WorkJuice Coffee Breaks for con attendees from Caffe Vita – the perfect addition for the Seattle crowd. And they did it with the help of their friends Molly Quinn (Castle), Alan Tudyk (Firefly), John DiMaggio (Adventure Time),Jim Beaver (Supernatural), John Roderick (The Long Winters), Paul & Storm – and, last but not least, Cecil BaldwinJeffrey Cranor and Joseph Fink of the eerie podcast phenomenon, Welcome to Night Vale.
The folks of Thrilling Adventure Hour and Welcome to Night Vale performed their first ever crossover show live at the Moore Theatre on Saturday, March 29. What transpired is aptly described by City Arts as “…the equivalent of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones doing a one-off split bill, but much quieter.”

When asked about their experience at Emerald City, co-creators of the Thrilling Adventure Hour Ben Acker Ben Blacker said, “ECCC was amazing! It was a blast to get to meet our fans in the Pacific Northwest! We love our fans and jump at the chance to meet them. We did as many signings and panels as we could, we previewed our concert film, we cross-overed with Night Vale! It was a whirlwind. Every one of us that went is dying to come back again and again… Traveling with the WorkJuice Players means having an entourage of our funniest pals all around us when we go anywhere.”

Added Acker and Blacker, “There will definitely be more collaboration between Night Vale and Thrilling Adventure Hour.”

But Thrilling Adventure Hour isn’t stopping at Seattle. They’ve just announced their plans to appear in Chicago April 25-27 to attend C2E2 – the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo. The 2013 expo brought 53K pop culture fans to McCormick Place in Chicago. This year, fans can also experience The Thrilling Adventure Hour on the show floor in a dedicated booth for signings and appearances – as well as a multitude of other programming.

As usual, The Thrilling Adventure Hour is bringing their friends along for the ride. Their weekend in Chicago will feature special guests Castle‘s Molly Quinn (back on board after a great time at Emerald City), Rider Strong (Boy Meets World), Scott Adsit (30 Rock), Peter Sagal (NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me), Janet Varney (Legend of Korra), Kevin Murphy & Bill Corbett (Mystery Science Theatre), Timothy Omundson (Psych) and Richard Speight, Jr (Supernatural).

The appearance at C2E2 is all about focusing on “the craft” of the WorkJuice Players. The WorkJuice Players attending for Chicago include Craig Cackowski, Mark Gagliardi, Hal Lublin and Marc Evan Jackson – all of whom are seasoned improv actors and coaches with credits including Second City, iO Chicago, iO West, National Lampoon, and the Groundlings.

WorkJuice activities at the con include hosting informative panels around the role of improvising for film, TV and animation as well as a live improv show (“The Thrilling Adventure Hour Improv Experience”) at the convention center for C2E2 attendees featuring the WorkJuice Players, Molly Quinn, Scott Adsit, and Janet Varney on Friday evening. (C2E2 badge-holders only.)

Thrilling Adventure Hour has partnered with DePaul University to host a live offsite show on Saturday, April 26 at the Merle Reskin Theatre. Tickets available here: http://bit.ly/1h8oJgf . Discounted balcony seats are available with the code “depaul”. This show is ticketed, but open to the public. C2E2 is even providing transportation to the venue for C2E2 attendees on their free shuttle.

Why DePaul? Mark Gagliardi, Disney and Universal Studios improv coach and core cast member of the WorkJuice Players, received his training at DePaul’s theatre school. Additionally, Jack Cummins, president of the newly merged Boom! Studios/Archaia Entertainment and publisher of the successful Thrilling Adventure Hour graphic novel (released July 2013) is also an alumus. It was an opportunity to bring things “home” and give back to Chicago, DePaul and its students.

Members of WorkJuice Players will also be appearing at the DePaul Theatre School on Friday at noon with guest Molly Quinn to speak to the theatre students about acting as a craft and industry best practices. This is free and open to the public. http://theatre.depaul.edu/news-and-events/Pages/chicago-live.aspx
