If you’re in the DC area and looking for a new convention to add to your list, consider Awesome Con! The event will be taking place April 18th-20th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. They already have some amazing guests lined up like George Perez, Billie Piper, and Cary Elwes. You can see all the celebrity guests here. What IS Awesome Con though? Here’s how the people behind it describe it:

Awesome Con DC is a celebration of popular culture. At its heart, Awesome Con is a comic-con that embraces all aspects of geekdom and pop culture. Expect a wide assortment of comic books, collectibles, toys, games, original art, cosplay, and more. Special events will include discussion panels, costume contests, trivia contests, gaming tournaments, and a whole lot of activities for kids.

Sounds pretty, well, awesome right? The event was created by Ben Penrod and Steve Anderson. Steve owns Third Eye Comics and Ben traveled around the country selling comics with Ninja Pirate Gear. They’re also responsible for Annapolis Comic-Con and the Southern Maryland Comic-Con. Tickets are still available and range in price from $30 up to $250 for a VIP option. One of the VIP options is the Billie Piper VIP which includes:

This is a pass for all three days of Awesome Con, with a gift bag that includes: a collector’s VIP badge, a ticket you can redeem for a free autograph and photo-op from Billie Piper, a comic book exclusive and a t-shirt. You will also get sweet benefits like early entry into the con and priority panel seating. VIPs also start first in line for autographs and photo-ops with Billie Piper and have guaranteed reserved seating to her Q&A panel.

If you’re a huge fan of hers, it might be worth checking out. If you plan on bringing your kids with you, kids under 10 get in for free with an adult admission.

This is a very up and coming show and I think we’re going to see some great things from them in the future. I see the type of events and guests that Steve runs at Third Eye Comics and just based on that, I feel very comfortable about the future of this convention. I know the show takes place during Easter Weekend but if you don’t have any plans be sure to check this out!
