In our second week embarking down the yellow brick road, we find out a few tidbits of important information. The Beast Forever is arriving in eight days. This beast knows the Wizard and will not destroy Oz with flood or fire, but by exploiting the secrets the Wizard keeps.  Anna (the new advisor to the Wizard), warns the Wizard of this, and much like the Beast she describes, points out the secrets she has deduced from being with him. Namely, that he doesn’t control the giants he allegedly used to destroy the Beast Forever, and the real power behind them is locked in the Prison of Abject. The Wizard promptly locks Anna up for this—so it’s probably true.

The fact the Wizard doesn’t have real (magical) power seems pretty much a given. I am curious how his reign of power came to fruition. I’m guessing some exposition or flashbacks will be forthcoming. The Wizard was quick to lock Anna away and scoffed at her prediction of snow during the “sunny” season. With the snow falling at the end of the episode, will the Wizard seek her counsel or will he perceive her as a bigger threat and try to dispose of her?

West reveals she hates magic; it is more addictive than the poppies and it was useless against the Beast Forever. That is why she acquiesces to the Wizard’s no magic rule. West has some sort of clairvoyance or “sight” that allows her to know things about people: for example Anna’s predecessor being pregnant and Anna’s back-story. So, I assume she knows all about the Wizard and the secrets he keeps. Which makes me wonder will she turn out to be the Beast Forever? Or, will she be a key factor in stopping the Beast?

I’m guessing the Beast Forever, isn’t just a person (as it has been fire and flood) but more of an ancient magic the comes forth to cleanse Oz. Maybe when corruption is rampant? If the Beast Forever has been fire and water, could we assume it will take on (or arrive) in another element form—say wind? Dorothy’s arrival by tornado may be the portent to the Beast’s arrival as well, or it could be that she is (or will become) the Beast Forever. We know the Ozites think the Beast Forever is a great evil, but is it?

Dorothy finds out a few things this episode; the Wizard’s guard is out to kill her (therefore the Wizard) and that ruby gauntlets she acquired upon East’s death are elements that help control the weather. She tries her hand at fixing the weather (mainly to get home) only to find herself in the snowy area of Oz with debris strewn about from her world, including a lab coat with her mother’s name on it. When she shows Sullivan the coat and describes the area, he says it belongs to the “interloper” that the Wizard had banished (I’m guessing about twenty years ago).

Karen Chapman (Dorothy’s biological mother) has been to Oz before. How did she get there? Did it correspond with the last time the Beast Forever arose? What is her relationship with the Wizard? I am guessing a big reveal will be the identity of Dorothy’s biological father. Will it be the Wizard? Or could King Pastoria have two heirs? Maybe Dorothy is the illegitimate love child between the King and Karen?

Speaking of Lost heirs—Tip! I will refer to Tip as male (how he identifies himself), even though he is portrayed by an actress. Wow—talk about having your world completely turned on its head.  I think this is great storyline—I like that there is a struggle with this character. Tip wasn’t just like “Okay I am a girl now”. He is struggling with how people are treating him. He is still the same Tip on the inside, but even his best friend is treating him differently.

Not only are people treating him in a way he is unaccustomed, but finding out dark magic was keeping him from his biological form and no one will replicate the potion must be devastating. Will Tip go back to Mombi? Then, Jack! I don’t think he will survive that fall, but who knows? Tip needs a friend– everything, not just his body, is an unknown for him and I don’t know how well he is processing this experience.  I think if he makes it to Oz, West would be the one person that could help him. But the question is,  would she see Tip for Tip, or she would just set him up working in the brothel?
