He’s traveled all over the world, nearly a hundred countries to be exact. You’ve seen him search for evidence of the Yeti, stay the night alone in King Tut’s tomb and visit other exotic, far off lands. And now he’s coming to Chicago.
Convention officials for C2E2 (Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo) announced today that the one, the only Josh Gates of SyFy’s Destination Truth will be on hand for this year’s convention being held April 13th – 15th, 2012 in the North Building of the McCormick Place Convention Center. Gates will be a part of a high-profile panel discussion and is also scheduled to partake in a signing, though no details as to when were made available at this time.
The conventions main programming objectives as of late are to broaden their range of featured guests from different areas of interest and background. “We look for guests who contribute to the growth and evolution of pop culture in its many forms,” notes Lance Fensterman, Group Vice President for ReedPOP and Show Manager for C2E2.
Gates is best known as being the host of the travel-adventure series Destination Truth where him and a team of fellow adventures chronicle their trips to the most out of this world destinations in search of truth, mystery and sometimes a good time. The show has been a huge hit for the SyFy channel and Josh Gates has become known as “the face of SyFy”. He’s also written a book, titled Destination Truth: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter (Oct. 11) and was inducted into the prestigious Explorers Club in New York.
At last year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, both Barb and I got the opportunity to meet Josh Gates and Erin Ryder as part of a meet-up put together by Fan Ambassador to the show, Amanda. It wasn’t anything fancy or elaborate which suited Josh’s demeanor. Both Erin and Josh were very down to earth (they walked to the meet-up just like all the fans) and seemed to enjoy themselves. This addition to C2E2 is a great one and I look forward to sitting in on the panel! See you there!
