Meet TeenyGeek & Her Tattoos!

Geek Fun

Iā€™m Maria Palafox also known as @teenygeek on twitter where I rant about video games, cartoons, toys, comics, food and my latest gripe. I’m 29 years old and I live in New York City. I’m a project manager at a sleep disorders research institute. My second job is slaying dragons and demons in the magical land of Azeroth. That means I spend hours upon hours in front of my computer playing World of Warcraft with a bunch of other people. One could say I’m slightly addicted to video games. I recently started a weekly podcast about World of Warcraft, called ā€œI Hearth Geeks.ā€ I host it alongside the absolutely talented actress Teal Sherer (@TealSherer), who plays Venom on The Guild, and the boy who is equally as handsome as he is nerdy, Russ Clarke (@ruvio).

When did you get your 1st tattoo?

Ohhhh man… I know I have the choice to conceal the truth about my real first tattoo and continue to deny its existence, but I feel like I owe it to the world to be honest.

I got my very first tattoo at the very tender and not-quite-mentally-developed age of 15. I’ll just come right out and say it, it’s a tramp stamp. For shame…

What made you decide on the designs/images you picked?

My tramp stamp is a Mayan symbol that means “hunter.” I was 15 when I got it, so the thought process behind it was minimal and probably embarrassing. My two other tattoos are 8bit images of the P-wing and Blooper from Super Mario Bros. 3. The P-wing was my favorite item to get in the game and I remember saving them all for the last ships in world 8 (even though I rarely needed them, but it was nice to have them just in case). Blooper is probably the biggest asshole in all of the SMB games. You knew that if you made the wrong move, you were screwed and would have that little prick hovering above you until the end. I like pricks, he’s my favorite of them all. Essentially, I picked both images because gaming has and continues to be a huge part of my life and SMB3 is my favorite video game of all time. I actually still have my original Nintendo and SMB3. The game has yet to lose its awesomeness!

Do your tattoos get any funny or weird reactions from people?

I’ve only gotten positive reactions from my visible tattoos. The only funny one has been from one of those “cell phone” guys at the mall. He said, “Hey. is that the flute from Mario Brothers?” I responded with, “Nope. It’s the P-wing… There’s a P and it’s in a wing.” I might have come off as mean, but those guys are always so obnoxious. Plus, he only ended up trying to give me his cell phone spiel.

Do you have any more nerd related tattoos in mind? If so, what?

I’m really loving this 8bit theme I have going and I would like to get just one more SMB3 tattoo on my forearm. It would be Mario in the frog suit. It’s so cute! I would love to get the Water Tribe symbol from Avatar: The Last Airbender. It’s one of my favorite cartoons.

If you could give one piece of advice about getting a tattoo, what would it be?

I would advise people to wait until you’re old enough to be too old to regret things!

Thanks again Maria! Be sure to check out her podcast and send her some love!
