By the end of Comic Con, I was pretty much grabbing any swag that I could. I sounded like a zombie moaning “Swaaaaaag” and reaching out towards the people who were handing out the goodies.
I will admit, I didn’t walk away with as much swag this year as I did last year. I’m sure part of that is because I only attended three panels and didn’t receive swag at any of them. Most of the swag I received this year was from off site events or just walking around Gaslamp. The first items I picked up were the wicked awesome sunglasses that the USA Network were giving away for “Psych” and “White Collar.” They were being handed out in the Valley Of The Swag. You know where that is right? It’s that triangle area in front of the Hard Rock and before/after the train tracks and Tin Fish. The sunglasses were a huge hit as I saw people wearing them all weekend. I think it’s safe to say they were the most useful piece of swag given out during San Diego Comic Con.
My next round of swag I received while standing in line for the “Captain America” 10AM screening. It was a long line and a long wait. It was nice to see we were rewarded though! We received some awesome items including a poster, a pack of buttons plus some of us in line received an awesome Captain America shirt. They had shirts in red & blue and I’m not sure what the difference was. I think the red shirts might have been child sized but I could be wrong. Then after the movie was over we were allowed to keep our special 3D glasses. I tried wearing them as sunglasses but that didn’t work out too well. That was all the official swag we received but I think a few people might have “borrowed” some of the posters that were hanging around the lobby area of the theater. They were just stapled to the wall and I saw a few spots where it looked like a poster might have been there at some point in time.
Some other fun swag was earned at the Conan O’Brien Art Gallery. I think each day you could earn something different but when we checked it out we received a few awesome buttons and a Flaming C shirt plus a small poster. I think during some of the other days you could walk away with a cape and I think even oven mitts! Conan knows how to bring the swag that’s for sure. If you go on Ebay right now you’ll find a few listings for his swag. I’m not even kidding, one has 27 bids and is sitting at $99. Nuts, right? I might be wrong but I believe you could have your picture taken with The Flaming C via green screen but I wasn’t waiting in another line and it was long, and barely moved.
Throughout the weekend I received some other pieces of random swag here and there. I walked away with a set of the WB TV Guides plus a few posters for different movies like “The Raven” staring John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe and a Star Trek poster that featured all the captains, even Chris Pine. I ended up with a few “Falling Skies” pins that were being handed out in the Gaslamp area as well. I did end up with a “Psych” shirt thanks to a follower on Twitter. I wasn’t able to make the panel and sent out a tweet letting everyone know if they ended up with a shirt and didn’t want/need it, I’d take it! Luckily @yupyeahuhhuh had one for me! We managed to meet up Saturday which at Comic Con is one of the hardest things to do. Thanks again for hooking me up! I appreciate it! Of course like at any Comic Con I ended up with various free magazines that had special Comic Con editions going on. Plus not to mention 328390478 postcards for different signings, panels and events.
All in all, I was pretty happy with the swag I managed to get my hands on this year. Some of it was pretty useful and some of it just pretty awesome!
