While on vacation in London I was lucky enough to attend the premiere of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Below I’m going to share with you some of my thoughts on the film. I’m going to break it down into different sections instead of doing a typical review. Possible light spoilers ahead!
Please do yourself a favor and don’t watch leaked clips, gifs, or other images of Vision. He truly needs to be experienced for the first time on the big screen. He’s wonderful. His entire story was fantastic and I liked the small changes they made to his creation. I have to applaud Marvel for keeping him under wraps during promo. I’m sure it wasn’t an easy decision to come to but it was the right one. The pure joy I felt when he appeared was something I can’t really put into words.
Nailed it. James Spader did a fantastic job with the role, which shouldn’t be a surprise. I was surprised at how complex Ultron ended up being though. He’s not just some crazy ass robot. He has emotions, from confusion to anger. I actually like that his facial plates can move, as it gives the character more of a personality.
I’ll start off by saying I can’t compare DOFP Quicksilver to AOU Quicksilver. I never saw the X-Men film. I’m sure there will be plenty of other articles out there focusing on just this. I was very pleased with the Twins. I think their story and powers were handled correctly and I loved seeing Scarlett Witch in action. The connection that the siblings share is powerful and it comes across on screen perfectly. The best part of Quicksilver is his attitude which we’ve seen in some of the promo footage. I can confirm that Hawkeye does indeed share a lot of screen time with the Twins, which was highly entertaining.
The rumors are true! He really does have some of the best lines and best scenes of the movie. I’m glad Joss made sure to include him more this time around since I don’t think anyone was too thrilled with how he was handled in “Avengers.” We do find out what he was up to during the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. and to say it was a shock is an understatement. I pretty much couldn’t stop talking about it once the movie ended and I can’t wait to talk about it more once all my friends see it. We finally got the sassy Clint we all deserve.
I could 100% do without this storyline. At first, during the flirty bar scene I thought it was cute. Then by the end I was over it. I’m having a hard time putting into words what my issues are. I feel like it took away from Natasha. There was a lot of talk of Bruce and Nat running away together. What? No. Joss doesn’t handle Black Widow well. I don’t know why. I don’t know what his deal is but I for one am happy to know she’ll be back in the hands of the Russo Brothers soon. As far as Bruce? What about Betty? I get that things are complicated due to studios and rights, but it’s like she never existed! If you were here with me, I’d be able to talk your ears off about my issues with this but like I said, putting it into physical words is hard.
The action is huge this time around, and fast. I had a hard time keeping up with everything! I recommend seeing the movie more than once because it’s that fast. There’s that much going on. I’m pretty sure that due to my seats I missed anything that happened on the right side of the screen. If you’re someone who enjoys sitting close to the screen, I recommend maybe going a few rows back this time.
I probably had issues with about 2% of the movie but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it though. No movie is perfect. The moment “Age of Ultron” started to play, I had a huge smile on my face. I laughed, I cried, I got angry. I felt connections to characters I had never met before. I felt more connected to those we’ve known for years. In the end, the movie has me even more excited to see what’s coming down the road. The moment I left the theater I asked myself if it was time for “Captain America: Civil War” yet? I feel like I’m forgetting a lot in this post, but I still want people to be surprised at what comes. If you want spoilers or a more in depth review, there are plenty of places out there to find that. I just wanted to get my thoughts out there on the things that stuck out at me. And I hope what I’ve said here makes sense, because I’m still suffering from jet lag!
