Vic Mignogna, born August 27, 1962, is one of the most popular and versatile voice actors working in the North American anime industry today, Mignogna’s prolific career started with ADV Films portraying the character Vega in the series Street Fighter II V, based on the long running fighting game franchise. Mignogna further honed his craft at the Houston-based distributor, lending his talents to various productions that were released by the now defunct label.
Following his work with ADV Films, Mignogna reached out to Funimation, the largest distributor of anime films and series in North America, and landed the role of the villainous Broly, a hulking super being feared throughout the land known as a Saiyan. His performance in the Funimation-produced English language dub of Dragon Ball Z proved to be so successful that he has since reprised the character in every TV, film and video game appearance since his initial performance. As rewarding as the role in the Dragon Ball Z franchise may have been, Mignogna’s most noteworthy performance was still on the horizon.
In 2004, Mignogna was cast in the role of Edward Elric in one of the most cherished and beloved anime series of the last fifteen years, Fullmetal Alchemist. Telling a personal tale of two brothers who risk everything to bring back their dead mother, Fullmetal Alchemist’s story resonated with anime fans the world over, becoming nothing short of a phenomenon.
Since its debut, Fullmetal Alchemist has had such a lasting impact on devotees that a second series was commissioned and produced in 2009. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a retelling of the story from the original series with the added inclusion of new characters and revelations found within the pages of the original manga comic book the series was based on with Mignogna once again reprising his role as Edward Elric.
Following the success of his work on the Fullmetal Alchemist series, Mignogna continued to lend his vocal talents to various animated franchises such as Naruto, Bleach and Attack on Titan. Mignogna also made the jump to live action, appearing as Captain James T. Kirk in the highly acclaimed web series Star Trek Continues.
