More Preregistration Information From CCI

San Diego Comic Con '14

Last night CCI updated both the Toucan Blog and the preregistration page with some pretty important information. If you haven’t read everything over, please do so! They did a really good job of explaining how everything will work and a video should be available soon as well.

As far as purchasing badges goes:

During preregistration you may purchase badges for up to three people total, yourself included. Prospective attendees must be eligible for preregistration and they must have their own unique Comic-Con Member ID. You will need the Member ID and last name for all individuals you are purchasing for.

Comic-Con accepts Visa, MasterCard, and American Express only. We’re sorry, but we cannot accept PayPal or payments using multiple credit cards.

If you’re planning to buy for more than one person, be sure that you’ve already agreed on who’s going to front the bill. It probably doesn’t need to be said but the person buying should double check and make sure that they have the space available on their card or in their bank account. If someone else is letting you use their card, be sure to pay them back ASAP, or even try to send the money before hand.

What information do you need in order to even enter the waiting room?

To log in to the EPIC Registration waiting room, every eligible attendee will need their own personal registration code. This helps keep out members who are not eligible and block those pesky bots that want to crash the system! Your personal registration code will be sent to you via email with a link to the registration landing page. This email will go out at least 24 hours prior to the sale. If you do not receive your email, don’t fret. You will be able to access your personal registration code by logging in to your Member ID account and selecting the “Registration Info” tab.

This code will also only allow you to enter the room once and you can’t use multiple browsers or devices. Personally, I think this is a good thing and will hopefully help the issues of crashes and overloaded servers.

Here’s some information on the EPIC waiting room:

The EPIC landing page will open for registration code entry at 7:00 am PT on the day of the preregistration sale. You do not need to rush to the landing page at 7:00 AM! Eligible attendees will have two full hours to authorize their device/browser on the landing page and enter the waiting room. Early arrival to the landing page does not provide any advantage over those who arrive later than you.

Sometime after 9:00 AM, everyone who is already in the EPIC waiting room will be put in line randomly for their registration session. It does not matter what time you entered the waiting room before 9:00 am, all members will be lined up in random order for their registration session.

Remember, do NOT refresh while you are in the waiting room! Refreshing your browser in the waiting room will move you to the back of the line. It is very important that you do not refresh your browser at 9:00 am or during the sorting process. The waiting room will automatically refresh every 120 seconds.

Admittance to the waiting room does not guarantee you a badge or a registration session.

I would suggest if anyone runs into any issues to be sure to screencap everything. It’s normally the first thing CCI will ask for when you contact them. As far as how long do you have? According to CCI you have 15 minutes to complete your registration session and purchase. There is no countdown timer though. You might want to use your phone or even an online countdown to make sure you don’t run out of time. The most important thing they stress is to NOTuse the back button at anytime during your registration process.

Again, I stress everyone go and read the two links above. Hell, read them 15 times if you need to! The information they provided is important and helpful, I can’t stress that enough. Even if you aren’t taking part in the preregistration, I would give it a look over. I imagine the regular sale will run the same.

  • The random place in line after being in the waiting room is a bit worrisome to me. How many people will this virtual waiting room hold? Imagine that you get in there at a reasonable time, but end up in line at number “no way I will be getting a 4day pass or preview night”. I am uncomfortable with this. And not having a timer on the page. Especially since there could be a nanosecond difference between their site and what your timer is showing. You could, in theory, time out just as you are finishing up.

All the above thoughts, I hope end up completely unfounded, and everyone gets the tickets they want. I just obviously have some reservations about this new method.
