A Possible Peggy Carter Short At Comic-Con?

San Diego Comic Con '13

Hayley-Atwell-in-Captain-America-The-First-AvengerOne of my favorite characters from “Captain America” was Peggy Carter. She was a badass woman who didn’t take crap from anyone. That’s why I’m pretty excited to hear rumblings of a possible Peggy Carter short film. If you remember last year at San Diego Comic-Con Marvel showed off “Item 47” which lead Con attendees on a wild goose chase around the city. It ended up with a screening attended by some of the cast.

Bleeding Cool and ScreenCrush are both reporting information on this possible new Marvel short. The information was gathered from an interview that Hayley Atwell did with The Age where she says the following:

“People really liked [Peggy Carter]. So Marvel have made sure that as part of Comic-Con there will be a little kind of snapshot as to what Peggy’s actually really capable of, which was finished here and which was great fun. Hopefully, it will lead to other things.”

The “here” she refers to is London which is where she calls home. As we know, James Gunn is across the pond working on “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Is there a chance he played a role in this? Or maybe even Edgar Wright? It wouldn’t be a huge surprise, I think, if one of those two upcoming Marvel directors were involved.

It’s worth nothing that Hayley had this to say about her role as well:

“I’d revisit Peggy again. She’s pretty uptight. I’d like to, if I get a spin-off, definitely add a bit of humour in there. She’s very British. Very uptight. Let’s hope if she gets a spin-off it’s modern day, so she can relax a little bit, let go of the uniform.”

While I know it’ll probably never happen, could you imagine Peggy Carter and Tony Stark getting into it? I imagine she’d be friends with Pepper Potts too. Well, that’s how it plays out in my head!

What do you think about this possible news? Is this something you’d be interested in checking out or see happen?

UPDATE 4/25:

Comicbook.com is reporting that Marvel Studios Co-President Louis D’Esposito has confirmed a short for San Diego Comic-Con, even mentioning it has a female protagonist.

Louis D’Esposito said, “I’ve just done a couple of short films for Marvel that feature female protagonist.” When asked when fans would be able to take a look at those short films, Louis D’Esposito responded, “Item 47 was on The Avengers Blu-ray DVD, and I can’t really tell you the next one yet. It’s still top secret, but we will be premiering it at Comic-Con.”

  • I am bookmarking this Barb, as I’m also a fan of Atwell’s Agent Carter character (will be cosplaying her again at SDCC). Was last year’s hunt for Item 47 all over the place, or fairly contained? I’ve never done one myself, and will be looking to the Internet to find out what I need to do. (Missing out on the Tron Legacy hunt is a sore spot for me…I think they might’ve done it for two years!)

  • I believe it was mainly Downtown/Gaslamp area but I’m not sure what the radius was as far as a few blocks or larger.
