Don’t I Know You From Twitter?

SDCC Tips/Info

I’m sure we’ve all had that awkward moment where we think we recognize someone from Twitter but we don’t want to make a fool out of ourselves. If you’re shy, just getting up the nerve to approach someone is stressful enough. Not knowing if that actually is the person you think it is? That’s a different level altogether. Thankfully there are a number of goodies out there that can make life a little easier.

il_570xN.193950556Like most people, I’m addicted to Etsy. I’ve done a post about this wonderful website before and here it is again. There a few items listed that will help you shout out to the world that yes, I am @TwitterHandle! Here’s a double silver Twitter Handle necklace for $43.99. If you’re looking for something for a little less, this hand stamped charm might be more up your alley at $22.99. If metal isn’t your thing you’ll find acrylic options as well. Some even include charms to really make it one of a kind. Personally, this necklace is one of my favorites and it’s only $18.

If jewelry isn’t your thing, you’ll find t-shirts as well. Some are better than others but it seems like most are similar in price. If you’re crafty, you can easily make your own shirt. Just go to any craft store and you’ll find everything you need, including the shirts. If hats are more your thing, that’s an option too!

Of course if you have labels and a printer, you can create your own “Hello, My Name Is…” stickers or badges to wear during any convention. It’s a cheap and simple way to get your name across. Avery offers templates online that are easy to use. I believe most of them are even free.

I’m seriously considering some of these options for San Diego Comic-Con. I think it’ll be fun and maybe take some of the stress out of meet-ups as well. Of course if you’re a lady and you go the necklace route remember that when you think that random guy is staring at your chest! He’s really just checking out your handle.

  • What a great idea. I think I’ll make up some “Hello my name is @CSSully” stickers for the upcoming cons.
Of course I COULD just buy a pack and hand write them, but Zazzle has some nice looking ones too.
Might be fun to add in an image, like my Twitter avatar/icon, as well.

  • A lot of the time people have these small signs around their badges with their handle, I saw them on all the applicable Marvel persons last year. Was very helpful.

  • AWESOME B I totally NEED this!!! Was gonna have Ts made for preview night but this is awesome for the entire weekend!!! Another thing to add to the list!
