In this classic 1982 animated movie — showing on the big screen in Pittsburgh for the first time in 30 years! — a unicorn leaves the safety of her forest to learn why the rest of her kind have disappeared from the world. Joined along the way by a bumbling magician named Schmendrick and the sharp-tongued Molly Grue, the unicorn’s search ultimately leads her to the realm of King Haggard, where she must face the deadly Red Bull and even greater dangers before discovering her true destiny.
Animated by the extraordinary Japanese artists who became the core of Miyazaki’s famous Studio Ghibli, The Last Unicorn features an all-star voice cast including Christopher Lee, Alan Arkin, Jeff Bridges, Mia Farrow, Angela Lansbury, Tammy Grimes, and Rene Auberjenois.
All three screenings will begin with a 30-minute Q&A session with Peter S. Beagle himself, author of both the original novel and the screenplay for the movie. After each showing Peter will be signing books and movies in the theater lobby, along with other wonderful Last Unicorn gift items which will be for sale there.
Over four million home video copies of The Last Unicorn have been sold in America over the last decade. Don’t miss this rare chance to see the film at the size it was meant to be seen, and to meet its incredible creator!
It looks like tickets are $7 for adults and just $5 for children. I had the chance to meet Pete at NYCC in 2011 and he was a delight to talk with!
