The Sheraton Misson Valley

San Diego Comic Con

This past year I stayed at The Sheraton Mission Valley. Here’s a little review of the hotel. Hopefully it’ll help someone out there made an educated choice when they pick a SDCC hotel for 2011. I’m horrible at writing reviews but here it goes.

Location:
The hotel is about 5 miles from the convention center, according to the website. I’d agree. We had a rental car which made traveling back and forth very easy. The drive was short and traffic wasn’t an issue. We were leaving around 5:30am though, keep that in mind. One nice thing about the location was the fact we were “down the road” from the second badge pick up location. I believe this was the 1st year that Comic Con allowed people to pick up off site and I’m glad they did. It made it very easy for those of us out in the Mission Valley area. SDCC did offer a shuttle from the hotel but we didn’t use it.

Room:
We had a standard room with two queen beds. The room was a good size and worked out fine for the two of us. I could easily see 4 people staying in the room with plenty of space. We had a room on the backside of the hotel, away from the highway. The front desk staff recommended a room on the backside of the hotel to help cut down on noise. I’m glad they shared that little of information! Our room was very quiet. You need a quiet room after dealing with SDCC crowds all day.

Dining:

We ordered room service and dined in the hotel restaurant and both were very pleasant experiences. We were the only two people in the dining area at the time but we still had great service. The food was pretty good too. Room service was quick! It was a bit expensive but that’s what you get for being lazy. It was delivered in under 30 minutes and they had a wide range to choose from. If hotel food isn’t your thing there were plenty if places to pick from in the area including a few that delivered.

Leftovers:
The Sheraton did offer internet service but we didn’t use it. According to the website though it’s $9.95 per day. I have no idea where that falls on the scale. The hotel had a nice size pool but since the weather was pretty dreary when we were out there we didn’t use it. We could see it from our room though and did notice a family making the most of it. The hotel staff were very friendly and were sporting Superman shirts during the week. You could see that they were really excited to represent the hotel and San Diego during the event. If we had questions they had answers!

All in all I think I’d stay here again. The only “down side” is the distance. It wasn’t a long drive but it felt long after walking around the convention center and Downtown San Diego all day. Plus it wasn’t really an option to head back to the hotel to freshen up. If you want to get away from the noise though after a long day of Coning then this might be up your alley.
