I’m a huge fan of Burn Notice from the USA Network. They happened to be the first panel of the day on Thursday which meant getting in line at the convention center at around 5:30am. Yes, I got up earlier for Comic Con than I do for work. That’s how it is at SDCC though if you want a good seat for your panel/event. I knew Thursday was a busy day with all the USA shows plus Showtime/Dexter. The funny thing is being on EST helped in the morning. 5:30am in California was 8:30am to my body/mind. It did catch up with me at the end of the day though but that’s another post for another day.
We waited outside until about 7am. That’s when they opened the doors to the convention center. The wait wasn’t over yet though. Once you actually get into the center then you rush off to whatever room you want/need. In this case I rushed up the escalators to Ballroom 20. I would repeat this routine on Friday. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was probably one of the first 30 people in line for the Ballroom. The only thing that sucked? The panel didn’t start until 1pm. That meant sitting/standing/laying in another line until they opened another set of doors around Noon.
Once the doors to Ballroom 20 opened I bobbed and weaved my way to seat in the 5th row, on the end of the right hand side. We were actually behind a row that had the last two seats marked for the handicapped. One was an actual seat and the other was an empty space for a wheelchair/cart/scooter. This was perfect since I’m short. I had a great view of the stage and had no issues taking pictures!
Burn Notice: Bruce Campbell, Matt Nix, Tim Matheson, Chris Vance
The only disappointing part of the panel was the fact more of the cast couldn’t make it. The reason for this is the fact that they’re filming in Miami at the moment. They did make up for it though by having two “Ask a Spy” segments. One featured Jeffrey Donovan (Michael Westen) and the other starred Coby Bell (Jesse Garcia). I was sad they didn’t feature a little Gabrielle Anwar (Fiona Glenanne). Hey, USA Network! You need to fix that next year.
Even thought the panel lacked most of the cast Bruce Campbell made up for it. He was entertaining as always, handing out money to people in the audience who complimented him or just said something he liked/agreed with. The big news that came out of the panel though was the fact that they’re working on a Sam Axe prequel movie. The USA Network exec actually came out on stage to make the announcement. You can find more info here. That was the only major piece of news to come out of the Burn Notice panel. We did learn that Bruce Campbell sweats but Donovan doesn’t. Well, he did once while sitting in the Charger during a hot ass Miami day but the next day the car magically had A/C. That’s what happens when the Number 1 sweats!
Here’s are a few pictures from the panel. You can view the rest here.
As you can see a fun time was had by all. As I mentioned before it would’ve been great to have more of the cast but I’ll take Bruce any day of the week!
